Step 1: Place an Oura Ring Order to Get Your Sizing Kit

Yes, you will have to place an Oura ring order to get a sizing kit.

You can’t just order a sizing kit and decide on your Oura ring design later.

So go to the Oura ring shop, and decide on the ring design and color.

Important: Make sure that you don’t select a ring size but instead, select the “free sizing kit” under the ring size.

when you place your order, your ring sizing kit will be shipped to you.

Which Design Oura Ring to Get

There are 2 Oura ring designs to choose from: Heritage and Horizon.

Heritage is the original ring design with the plateau top.

Horizon is the newer design, fully round, without the flat top.

Both rings come with the exact same technical capabilities, so no functional differences there.

Worth to mention is that the Horizon style is more expensive than the Heritage. And it comes in one more color option.

Color options again deviate in price.

While Heritage is available in silver, black (glossy and matte), and gold, Horizon also comes in rose gold.

In short: Choose the oura ring style that you like the most.

Order Your Oura Ring Sizing Kit

This step basically gets done automatically when you place your Oura ring order with the sizing kit chosen.

You will receive 2 order emails from Oura – one with the shipping info for your sizing kit and one with your order confirmation for your Oura ring.

Step 2: Try on the sizing rings and choose the best fit

Once you receive your sizing kit in the mail, it’s time to try on the ring sizers and find the best fit.

The sizing kit comes with 8 plastic rings ranging from Oura ring sizes 6 to 13.

There’s a video by Oura that guides you through the process and explains the most important things to look out for.

Oura recommends wearing your Oura ring on your index fingers.

Alternatively, you could also wear it on your middle finger or ring fingers.

Any finger where the base of your finger is wider than the knuckle.

The fingers not recommended by Oura are the pinky and your thumb.

If you usually wear rings, I would also consider if the Oura ring will feel comfortable next to your other ring, or if they would interfere.

Important is that you choose a finger where the base of your finger is larger than the knuckle.

You don’t want a loose fit of the ring because it will not be able to measure accurately if it doesn’t sit with a snug fit.

Look at your fingers and check if the base of your selected finger is wider than the knuckle (so handle the above recommendations with care and rather look at your unique finger shapes to choose the best position).

Is My Finger Always the Same Size?

Not only are fingers from your two hands different (your dominant hand’s fingers will be slightly larger than the fingers of your other hand), but each of your fingers will also vary in size, in different conditions:

Time of Day

During different times of the day, your fingers will vary in diameter;  in the morning, your finger tends to be a bit more puffy than throughout the day.

Temperature and Swelling

Temperature also plays a huge role:

When it’s cold, your finger will be narrower than when it’s hot. So pay attention to the temperature outdoors, in your room, and your body temperature.

Even though you’re in a climatized room, your finger will adjust only slowly to the temperature outdoors.

Oura Ring How to Wear

You want to wear your Oura ring on the base of your finger.

The three sensor bumps inside the ring, along the inner diameter, have to sit at your palm side.

If the ring is sized well, you will not feel any sensor bump while wearing your Oura ring.

How Should Oura Ring Fit?

The Oura ring needs to sit snug to properly work.

Make sure that there’s no gap between the inner diameter of the ring and your finger.

Pay attention to how the ring fits when you go about your day. A properly fitted ring should not rotate around your finger; it should stay in place, no matter what you do.

Step 3: Wear the Ring Sizer for a Day

Once you are happy with the size you chose, Oura recommends wearing the ring sizer for a day.

Only like this, you will see if it’s still comfortable when your finger expands and if it’s still sitting correctly as your finger’s diameter gets smaller in the cold. 

Tip: I highly recommend wearing your Oura ring sizer for a few hours of your day but also overnight!

That’s when your finger will get puffy and a too snug fit might get uncomfortable.

You want to avoid an uncomfortable fit during the night because one of the ring’s main features is sleep tracking (and you will simply wear it more if it fits better).
